INDUSTRIAL MINERALS CONTROLLER
$70,000 TO $120,000 + STOCK OPTIONS. Reports to: CFO. SUMMARY Function as a business partner with plant and financial management to effectively manage and control the local business. Accountable for plant responsibilities including general accounting, payables, order entry, billing, cost accounting, bill of materials, internal control systems, business analysis, information systems and financial reporting. Will also liaison with corporate financial staff, as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Maintain systems development and computer systems, software and controls, hardware, and reporting conventions. Superior experience is required. Prepare monthly reports of results, monthly forecasts, annual operating plan, and strategic planning. Responsible for internal controls of the plant for operations and finance. Experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Analyze and accurately report current month’s financial results to the plant, sales, and corporate management in accordance with corporate format and time requirements. Submit all financial transactions, transmissions, and reporting on a timely and accurate basis. Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments. Perform audits of bills of materials to ensure product costs are accurate and accounted for properly. Report audit results monthly. Ensure timely and accurate input of bill of material and price code changes. Ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations. Maintain a perpetual inventory for finished goods and reconcile this perpetual to production, shipping, and returns on a daily basis. Analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly. Reconcile all inter-company accounts monthly. Analyze internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported. Assure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Policies. Assist Chief Financial Officer with tax compliance and audits and interface with CPAs to provide auditing and tax prep information. Responsible for credit management, insurance and purchasing controls. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Attend daily plant production meetings. Perform walkthroughs of the plant with the General Manager to discuss production and costing issues. Review labor reporting and cost, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution cost, returns and inventory levels. Conduct formal meetings with manufacturing, finance and sales management personnel to discuss all plant issues. Develop and publish a formal agenda and recap with actions to be taken. Assist in the completion of special projects. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS B.S. in Accounting or Business Administration. 5-10 years as plant controller or cost manager in a manufacturing environment, managing a staff, with an emphasis on cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis. Mining or forest products industries experience a plus. Superior skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Considered an expert with Excel spreadsheets and ERP/MRP systems. Experience with implementing accounting software systems and basic knowledge of IFRS- International Financial Reporting Standards. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong interpersonal skills; excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated leadership as part of a cross-functional plant management team. Proven ability to manage and develop staff. WORKING CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. NOTE: MUST be promotable to CFO within 3 years.
